Description of Artwork: Originally titled "Deadly", Karla is based on the real life murders of two Ontario schoolgirls by Karla Homolka and Paul Bernardo



Description of Incident: Controversial from the very beginning, it had sparked calls for boycotts and bans by the Ontario government when it was announced that it would premier at the Montreal World Film Festival. Tim Danson who represented the French and Mahaffy families, calling the film "Exploitive and sensational"

The producers of the film had offered advanced screenings for the families and had cut explicit scenes.
